LeBron James thought he’d found his final home when he joined the Los Angeles Lakers in 2018. Seven years later, trade rumors are swirling again around the NBA icon.
As the 2025-26 season approaches, James faces questions about his future in Los Angeles. With a few years left in his already two-decade-long NBA career, many think James will look to spend them with a championship contender. The Lakers, with a freshly traded Luka Dončić and new center Deandre Ayton, might not be that team just yet.
Why Won’t LeBron James Address the Lakers Trade Rumors?
Despite the speculation surrounding his future, James hasn’t stopped making the most of his offseason. The four-time NBA champion was recently spotted at his son Bronny James’ Summer League Lakers-San Antonio Spurs clash, enjoying some time with his family.

When broadcasters approached James for some questions, attempting to pry about his current situation with the Lakers, James refused to address the rumors head-on. His response was direct and clear:
“I ain’t got nothing to talk about.”
Since moving to the Lakers in 2018, James has continued to play at a high level in Los Angeles. Averaging 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 8.2 assists during the 2024-25 season, the 40-year-old continues to give fans hope.
However, apart from their NBA title win in 2020, James has failed to lead the Lakers to a championship.
Which Teams Are Showing Interest in Signing James?
With his experience, leadership, and excellent form, few teams would pass up the opportunity to sign James if he moves on from Los Angeles.
While it’s a long shot, ESPN NBA insiders Brian Windhorst and Ramona Shelburne spoke about a possible move to the Golden State Warriors.
“A handful of teams, including the Golden State Warriors, who tried to trade for James in 2023-24, considered again whether to make an offer, sources said,” wrote the insiders.
Stephen Curry, while leading a talented roster, is struggling to pull off a deep playoff run. James, even after various roster changes, is in the same situation. While having two superstars at the same time might not be cheap, it’s certainly a possibility to be considered.
Adding to the intrigue, the insiders also spoke of the Lakers holding a secret meeting with Dončić, discussing and aligning their plans for the future. James, who people thought could end his career in Los Angeles, wasn’t present for the meeting.
Additionally, though James has picked up his $52.6 million player option, he is yet to sign an extension with the team.
