Kelly Olynyk’s journey from Washington to San Antonio comes with a hefty price tag. The veteran power forward brings more than just basketball skills to his new team, carrying a $13.44 million salary and a reputation as one of the NBA’s smartest financial minds.
What Is Kelly Olynyk’s Salary for the 2025-26 Season?
Kelly Olynyk is slated to earn $13.44 million in the upcoming NBA season. According to Spotrac, the exact figure is $13,445,122. During the 2024-25 campaign, the forward earned a salary of $12,804,878.
This salary stems from the two-year $26.25 million veteran extension Olynyk signed in March 2024, which runs through the 2025-26 NBA season. The deal ensures financial security as he enters his 13th year in the league..
How Did Olynyk Build His $108 Million Career Earnings?
During his first four years in the league with the Boston Celtics, Olynyk played on a rookie contract and earned $9.32 million as a valuable off-the-bench piece. After showing consistency with Boston, the forward earned his first big payday in 2017.
Olynyk became a free agent in July 2017 and signed a four-year $50 million contract to join the Miami Heat. While he only played for two teams in his first seven years in the league, he has since suited up at several destinations, including the Houston Rockets, Utah Jazz, Detroit Pistons, Toronto Raptors, and New Orleans Pelicans.
The Canadian’s other significant deal came in 2021 when he was a free agent and signed a three-year, $37.2 million contract with the Detroit Pistons. According to Spotrac, he has earned over $108 million throughout his career.
In 2019, reporter Shandel Richardson wrote a feature for The Athletic titled, “‘Financially intelligent’ Heat big man Kelly Olynyk on track for comfortable post-NBA life.” This feature details how the forward manages his finances.
“Olynyk signed a four-year, $50 million contract in 2017, yet he still prefers to live within the means of a college student,” the feature said. “Now 27 and six years into his NBA career, he has never bought a car for himself and drives a Toyota Tundra that was given to him by a local dealership. He refuses to buy a home in South Florida until he finds the best financial fit.”
Richardson reported that even before the Canadian forward was drafted to the NBA, he had teamed up with Intersect Capital, a wealth management firm, and completed an internship with them. The company tracks its clients’ savings and earnings and reportedly grades him as a 90% saver.
“Olynyk owns at least 600 rental units in Washington and Arizona while also receiving income from a place he rents out in Boston,” Richardson added. “His entrepreneurial efforts will only grow once his playing days end.”
On the court, the power forward will be heading into his 13th season in the league and continues to make solid contributions. During the 2024-25 season, he averaged 8.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.9 assists in the 44 games he played for the Raptors and Pelicans. In 2024-25, he earned a starting role in New Orleans when he was traded before the deadline and averaged 10.7 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 3.6 assists in 20 games.
