DeMar DeRozan has never been the type to chase headlines. But as speculation about his future keeps circling, even he seems to have had enough. With just six carefully chosen words, the Sacramento Kings star finally addressed the trade rumors that have followed him for weeks.
In the middle of an uncertain offseason, his cryptic message added a new layer to an already complicated situation.
DeRozan’s Social Media Response Reveals Growing Frustration
As trade chatter continues to swirl around the NBA, DeRozan is once again in the thick of it. Earlier this offseason, league insiders Marc Stein and Jake Fischer reported that DeRozan is “widely perceived” to be available in trade talks.
With his name surfacing as a possible fallback option for contending teams, the noise hasn’t stopped. And now, it’s reached a point where even DeRozan, typically quiet online, decided to weigh in.

The six words, no names, no context, but an almost dismissive line, were aimed squarely at the online conversation. It arrived shortly after another wave of rumors linked the veteran to the Miami Heat.
According to Jake Fischer, Miami had been “linked to” DeRozan alongside Utah’s John Collins. The fit made sense since the Heat are looking to regroup after trading Jimmy Butler and being swept out of the playoffs. DeRozan, even at 35, still offers veteran scoring, experience, and leadership.
But that particular rumor fizzled quickly as the Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson clarified that the Heat are “not pursuing a trade for DeRozan to this point,” shutting down any serious momentum.
Still, the speculation has only grown louder in recent weeks, something DeRozan is clearly aware of, even if he’s not saying much.
Sacramento’s Rebuild Timeline Conflicts With DeRozan’s Championship Window
DeRozan arrived in Sacramento last offseason in a move that raised eyebrows around the league. Coming off a strong stretch with the Chicago Bulls, he chose the Kings, wanting to play alongside De’Aaron Fox and under Mike Brown, with hopes of pushing a young team deeper into the postseason.
But the season didn’t unfold the way anyone hoped. The Kings finished 40-42 and missed the playoffs. Brown was let go in December 2024, and the team’s identity began to shift. Through it all, DeRozan remained steady, averaging 22.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game on 47.7% shooting.
In April, after a season-ending loss to Dallas, he spoke with quiet honesty about the uncertain road ahead.
“You always want a foundation that’s stable and understood going forward,” DeRozan said. “I’m pretty sure a lot of decisions have got to be made from top to bottom. The next couple days, the next couple weeks, just process everything that went on. From a personal standpoint, that’s gonna be a priority, and we’ll see what happens from there.”
That moment now reads a little differently. DeRozan is still under contract, but he’s not on a timeline that matches Sacramento’s reset. The team isn’t close to contending, and with his 17th season approaching, it’s no secret he’d rather not spend what’s left of his prime waiting on a rebuild.
At the same time, there’s been no clear signal from the Kings that a move is imminent. Sacramento still values his leadership, and his on-court production hasn’t dropped. That leaves DeRozan caught somewhere in between: too valuable to let go for cheap, too seasoned to be a placeholder for a team going backward.
