The San Francisco 49ers are in the midst of a significantly changing roster. They will not have Deebo Samuel, Talanoa Hufanga, Kyle Juszczyk, and Dre Greenlaw this upcoming season. That is really going to change a lot of the outlook of the roster, as the 49ers looked to get younger and cheaper at some positions in order to pay players like quarterback Brock Purdy a massive extension.
Due to the roster changes, many people predict the organization will experience a downturn this upcoming season. However, one former Super Bowl Champion does not necessarily see it this way.
Mark Schlereth Believes the 2025 San Francisco 49ers Will Be Shockingly Good
While on the “Stinkin’ Truth Podcast,” host and three-time Super Bowl champion Mark Schlereth discussed how he is predicting the 49ers to be surprisingly solid this upcoming season.
“I think San Francisco is going to be one of those teams that will be shockingly good. And they’re going to surprise a lot of people out there that were pundits and were like ‘They’re not going to get along without Deebo. They’re not going to get along without Hufanga and Dre Greenlaw.’ I think you’re sadly mistaken because I think they are a lot better with the young players than people think they are.”

The 49ers are expected to bounce back this season if the 2025 win totals have anything to say as they are sitting at 10.5 wins at most sportsbooks. They also have the lowest opposing win percentage from the 2024 season with a .415 combined win percentage last year. Their NFL schedule has winnable games scattered throughout it and that will be a great chance to surprise people.
A lot of the team’s success this season is going to fall on the shoulders of Purdy, who is coming off a season where he completed 300 of 455 (65.9%) of his passes for 3,864 yards with 20 passing touchdowns to 12 interceptions. With the hopes that running back Christian McCaffrey and others can return to form this upcoming season after an injury-plagued 2024 season, there is going to be a lot of eyes on this 49ers team.
They have a lot of delta throughout the organization as we head towards the 2025 season, it will be interesting to see how coach Kyle Shanahan is going to lead this team.
