After a 3-14 season, the Tennessee Titans look to start a new era with a new coach. For Tennessee, finding the right coach means building a foundation that they hope will last. Moreover, winning games and making the playoffs are their biggest goals. This coaching change signals a clear shift in direction for the franchise.
CFB Analyst Believes Matt Nagy Will Be Next Tennessee Titans HC
The Titans endured a 3-14 season, struggling on both offense and defense and failing to build momentum. Offensively, the team did not find success, ranking No. 30 in PFSN’s NFL Offense Impact Score, a metric measuring production and efficiency. Weak offensive play hindered the team’s progress. To address this, the Titans plan to hire a new coach. According to NFL analyst Benjamin Allbright, one particular name stands out.
“I promised you all coaching guesses…
Giants: their preferred candidate is John Harbaugh. We will see if they’re able to land him. Others in play would include Stefanski and Vance Joseph if they don’t.
Dolphins: Jeff Hafley and Jesse Minter figure to be in play here of Harbaugh goes elsewhere.
Titans: Matt Nagy has been the front runner from the job.”
Nagy, currently the offensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs, has extensive coaching experience. After a notable playing career at the University of Delaware, he began coaching high school quarterbacks. Building on that experience, he later joined the Philadelphia Eagles, where head coach Andy Reid mentored him.
Nagy held various roles, ranging from quality control assistant to quarterbacks coach. Ultimately, when Reid left the Eagles, Nagy followed him to Kansas City and became the offensive coordinator in 2016.
The Chiefs’ growing success allowed Nagy to take his first head coaching job with the Chicago Bears in 2018. He finished with a 34-31 record before he was fired and rehired by the Chiefs in 2022 as a senior assistant. While in Chicago, Nagy led the Bears to two playoff appearances.
Nagy returned to help the Chiefs’ offense secure consecutive Super Bowl wins and another appearance, which ended in a loss to the Eagles. He could now become the next coach of the franchise, inheriting a team in need of offensive improvement.
Quarterback Cam Ward showed promise with 3,169 yards and 15 touchdowns; however, his 59.8% completion rate and 5.9 yards per attempt are less impressive. As a veteran quarterbacks coach, Nagy can design a system that highlights Ward’s strengths: moving the pocket and throwing on the run.
Additionally, the system Nagy might implement could address the Titans’ biggest weakness: protection. Ward was sacked 55 times, which cost the offense 410 yards. Whether by bringing in better linemen, changing the scheme, or adding new wide receivers, Nagy’s approach could resolve several key issues.
If Allbright’s assertion is accurate and Nagy becomes the next head coach, Tennessee could begin constructing the roster around him. With nine draft picks and approximately $18.5 million in cap space, according to Spotrac, the organization’s rebuild may progress quickly. This positions the Titans well for a fresh phase under new leadership.
