Week 9 started with Jimmy Garoppolo doing Jimmy Garoppolo things and ended with a black cat on the field. So really it was pretty much a typical NFL weekend. As we move past the halfway point of the season, here is how the power rankings shape up heading into Week 10 of the 2019 NFL season.
1. San Francisco 49ers (8-0, Last Week: 2)
Week 9 Result: Defeated Arizona, 28-25
A hard-fought win on the road against the Cardinals and being the last unbeaten team left in the NFL has the 49ers atop our latest power rankings. Jimmy Garoppolo is “feeling great baby”. Just ask Erin Andrews. A huge Monday night battle is coming in Week 10 against the 7-2 Seahawks.
2. New England Patriots (8-1, Last Week: 1)
Week 9 Result: Lost to Baltimore, 37-20
Lamar Jackson made the Patriots defense look silly Sunday night, handing New England their first loss of the season. But make no mistake, New England is still the class of the AFC and should still be fine for a first-round bye in the playoffs. A loss is not exactly how they wanted to go into their bye, and it could make them very angry when they invade Philadelphia in two weeks.
3. New Orleans Saints (7-1. Last Week: 3)
Week 9 Result: Bye
The Saints had their bye week in Week 9 and watched as Green Bay’s offense went MIA against the Chargers, further solidifying the Saints as one of the top dogs in the NFC. A divisional showdown with the Falcons awaits in Week 10.
4. Baltimore Ravens (6-2, Last Week: 6)
Week 9 Result: Defeated New England, 37-20
What else can you say about Lamar Jackson that hasn’t already been said? He is simply electrifying, and the Ravens have been so fun to watch because of it. It’s not an elite offense, but when you have a quarterback that can do the things Jackson can, you don’t need too much else. Fortunately, the Ravens do have weapons other than Jackson, including a stable running back in Mark Ingram, to help balance out the attack. Baltimore is for real.
5. Seattle Seahawks (7-2, Last Week: 7)
Week 9 Result: Defeated Tampa Bay, 40-34 (OT)
Russell Wilson is easily the favorite for the MVP after willing the Seahawks to another win and leading the game-winning drive in overtime against the Buccaneers. Wilson accounted for five touchdowns, and Seattle overcame three missed field goals to move to 7-2, setting up a huge Monday night battle against the 49ers in Week 11.
6. Green Bay Packers (7-2, Last Week: 4)
Week 9 Result: Lost to Los Angeles Chargers, 26-11
Did Green Bay leave their offense at the airport? As it turned out, it was nowhere to be found in LA as the Chargers had their way with Aaron Rodgers. Nonetheless, the Packers are still among the top teams and still lead the NFC North by one game.
7. Kansas City Chiefs (6-3, Last Week: 9)
Week 9 Result: Defeated Minnesota, 26-23
How crazy was that Damien Williams touchdown highlight? And not just for Williams, but Tyreek Hill blowing past him on the run. Kansas City got themselves back on track against the Vikings and could be getting Patrick Mahomes back in Week 10. Stay tuned. It’s going to get fun again in KC.
8. Minnesota Vikings (6-3, Last Week: 5)
Week 9 Result: Lost to Kansas City, 26-23
Minnesota fought tooth-and-nail at Arrowhead, and the game came down to a last-second field goal for the Chiefs. Minnesota is still a strong contender, but the questions continue to arise regarding Kirk Cousins in big games.
