2019 NFL Draft: Pittsburgh Steelers draft Devin Bush from Michigan

With the 10th pick in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers selected linebacker Devin Bush from the University of Michigan.

Devin Bush led one of the country’s top defenses last season. Can he cash in on being a first-round prospect and lead an NFL defense?

Elite level athlete. Strong in coverage with very good mental instincts and awareness. Route-recognition is superb. Tackling ability is very good, stays square and pops through his pads. Takes good angles to the ball carrier to make a play. Mental ability is very good, rarely reading the play wrong. Very good range and athletic ability from sideline to sideline. Elite level motor, never quitting in pursuit.

Long speed is average and may struggle in coverage the further downfield he goes. Slight frame will cause him issues against pullers at the next level and inhibits his ability to shed tacklers.

How will Bush help the Steelers?

Bush combines great mental ability with an explosive athlete. He’s just as comfortable in coverage as he is flying downrange and lowering the hammer on the ball carrier in the backfield. Bush can play at WILL, MIKE, or SAM linebacker and will provide a boost to any defense.
