The Saints’ 2025 season has already taken a significant hit in the offseason. Quarterback Derek Carr is dealing with a shoulder injury that may require surgery, potentially affecting his availability for the season.
As a result, New Orleans is reportedly exploring all options — from drafting a quarterback with the No. 9 overall pick to bringing in a veteran to lead the team temporarily. With that in mind, two-time Super Bowl champion Logan Ryan floated an interesting name: a quarterback who returned to the NFL at the end of 2024 and has already played for the Saints in the past.

Logan Ryan Says Saints Could Bring Teddy Bridgewater Back
Losing your starting quarterback before the draft is a challenge no franchise wants to face — and it certainly throws a wrench into the early plans of new head coach Kellen Moore. The Saints find themselves in a tough spot, navigating a tight salary cap that limits their immediate options to address the issue.
During an appearance on “Good Morning Football,” former NFL defensive back and two-time Super Bowl champ Logan Ryan proposed an outside-the-box solution to New Orleans’ quarterback dilemma — one that caught many by surprise.

“I would bring in a guy who won a championship last year — not a Super Bowl — Teddy Bridgewater, ‘Teddy Two Gloves.’ And I think we can all agree that anybody who has played with or against Teddy Bridgewater has respect for this man, right,” Ryan pondered.
“This man knows the game. He takes care of the football. This guy was a Pro Bowl-type quarterback who had a devastating leg injury. He has respect around the league.”
Bridgewater played a full 16-game season just once in his NFL career — back in 2015 as the starting quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings. Unfortunately, his career took a dramatic turn in the 2016 preseason when he suffered a gruesome leg injury that significantly altered his trajectory in the league.
In 2018, he signed with the New Orleans Saints, where he had a brief two-year stint and started just six games. However, he went 5-0 as a starter in 2019, which helped reignite his career and led to two more opportunities as a full-time starter — first with the Carolina Panthers in 2020, and then with the Denver Broncos in 2021.
“He’s been behind Drew Brees. He’s smart. He’s accurate. He’s a leader. I think he can help Spencer Rattler to be your bridge quarterback — or maybe extend his own career. I like Teddy Bridgewater to go in there. Look at what they have on that roster: Alvin Kamara, a great pass-catching back, Chris Olave, a great young wide receiver, Rashid Shaheed… So they have options to throw the ball,” Ryan said.
Bridgewater spent time coaching at Miami Northwestern High School, where he led the Bulls to a Florida Class 3A state title — showing his continued involvement with the game even while away from the NFL. In December 2024, he signed with the Detroit Lions, making a brief return to the league after spending a year out of football.
Now a free agent, Bridgewater could present a low-cost and familiar option for the New Orleans Saints. Given his previous stint with the team and experience as a reliable veteran, he might be a logical short-term solution as the franchise navigates the uncertainty surrounding Derek Carr’s shoulder injury.
