Chalk up former Philadelphia Eagles running back LeSean McCoy as a fan of Shedeur Sanders. The Eagles’ legend and franchise rushing leader believes that Shedeur Sanders will be the starting quarterback for his new team, the Cleveland Browns.
McCoy shared his thoughts during a May 8 appearance on Fox Sports 1’s “The Facility.”
LeSean McCoy Broke Down the Browns’ Quarterback Options, Featuring Shedeur Sanders
McCoy went into detail on the five quarterbacks currently on the Browns’ roster and explained why Sanders has a chance to start. He first pointed out why Sanders can beat out the three veterans on the roster.
“First of all, Deshaun Watson, he won’t be playing, he’s injured. He would be the bona fide starter, but he’s hurt. Joe Flacco is 40 years old. Joe Flacco was not that good. Joe Flacco last year played awful. They decided to bench Anthony Richardson, and they decided to play Joe Flacco. You know how that went? Horrible, okay?” McCoy said.
“Kenny Pickett, Pitt brother of mine, so I’m gonna be respectful, Kenny Pickett for the Steelers was not that good. Kenny Pickett had some solid games for the Eagles, but it wasn’t enough to say, you’re gonna be a starter. Because any time, any moment, you can go back to playing like you did for the Steelers.”

McCoy continued, labeling Dillon Gabriel as a “pawn” in the Browns’ quarterback room.
“I’ve never seen one tape about Dillon Gabriel. Before the draft, nobody even talked about him. But I know now that he’s in the lineup because he got drafted, I’m not believing that.”
He added that he believes Sanders has the potential to beat out the other four quarterbacks.
McCoy Does Not Like Sanders’ Comparison to Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers
McCoy also thinks Sanders going into this quarterback competition battle is not like what Tom Brady faced as a sixth-round rookie in New England or Aaron Rodgers in 2004 in Green Bay. He believes the lack of an established starter should make Sanders’ path to a starting quarterback position easier.
“Aaron Rodgers would sit behind who? Brett Favre. Brett Favre was a Hall of Famer. H-O-F. He was great at it, okay? Yes, he was.”
“Tom Brady, everybody loves him, just throw his name out there, because Tom is the greatest. But he had to wait, but he got a chance to play, right? Who’s he waiting behind? Drew Bledsoe. He was really, really, really good. All the quarterbacks for the Browns, they can’t start nowhere else in the NFL, can they?”
Because Sanders is not sitting behind a quarterback that McCoy considers good, he believes that Sanders will start sometime this season.
