The New York Giants’ offseason has been nothing short of chaotic — and there might be another shakeup coming at quarterback. With Jameis Winston caught in the middle of a messy depth chart, one analyst believes his time in New York could be over before it really begins.

Could the Giants Trade Jameis Winston Before the 2025 Season?
The Giants didn’t just add one quarterback this offseason — they added two. After signing Russell Wilson in free agency and naming him the starter, they traded back into the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft to select Ole Miss standout Jaxson Dart.
That left Winston, who signed earlier in the offseason, stuck between a fading opportunity and a future that doesn’t include him. According to Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton, the 30-year-old should be on the move.
“Head coach Brian Daboll has tabbed Russell Wilson as the starting quarterback. Big Blue traded back into the first round for Jaxson Dart. Winston is in no-man’s land between the team’s current and potential future starting quarterbacks. The Giants should try to trade him for an early Day 3 draft pick,” Moton wrote.
And that actually makes sense.
Winston, who owns 166 career touchdown passes, appeared in 12 games (seven starts) for the Cleveland Browns in 2024, throwing for 2,121 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. His fiery personality and veteran presence are undeniable assets, especially in a young quarterback room.
But this is a team that needs to win. And keeping Winston around might actually complicate things.
What Would a Trade Mean for New York’s QB Room?
If Wilson were to get injured — which isn’t out of the question — the Giants would be forced to choose between accelerating Dart’s development or handing the keys to Winston. And that’s the exact situation they should try to avoid.
Trading Winston could prevent any QB controversy and make it clear that the future starts with Dart. Plus, there’s real value in dealing with Winston before training camp. Quarterback depth around the league always gets tested, and teams could come calling once injuries inevitably hit in July or August.
New York likely won’t land more than a Day 3 pick or developmental player in return, but at this point, it’s about clarity. The quarterback room is too crowded, and Winston doesn’t fit long term.
He was a smart signing at the time, but after the Giants landed their potential franchise QB in Dart, the outlook changed fast. If a trade happens, it wouldn’t be about Winston’s ability — it’d be about building a sustainable future.
